SALTILLO, Coahuila, July 22, 2008.- As
expected the Cubans crushed the
Trinidadians in the second match of the
first day in the NORCECA Women’s Junior
Continental Volleyball Tournament.
Following an easy triumph 25-11, 25-12 y
25-7 the young “Morenas del Caribe” were
confirmed as one of the favourites to win
Pool B.
Far superior in all aspects resulted the
game of the Cubans, who allowed more
points to their rivals due to their own
errors, evidence of their lack of custom
of playing in foreign courts.
Setter Egli Sabin was the top scorer of
the match with 10 points. The others
contributors were the other setter and
captain Lilianny Marsillan, and outside
hitters Dayesi Massó and Wilma Salas, each
with 9 tallies, while middle blocker
Gyselle Silva had 8. For Trinidad y Tobago
Arielle Folkes was the best scorer and
only produced 4 points.
Joel Olazabal, head coach of Cuba: “it
was convinient to start against this team,
because the girls don’t have much
preparation and then they can go adjusting
to face the ones with better level, like
United States, Canada, and also Dominican
Republic which beat us 3-2 at the ALBA
Games.”
Daryl Davis, assistant coach of Trinidad
and Tobago: “The Cuban team is very fase
and they are able to correct their errors
very soon, it is very strong.”
Lilianny Marsillán, captain of Cuba: “The
match was really easy due to the low level
of the Trinidadians, but we must continue
battling to achieve our goal, which is to
qualify to the 2009 World, because we have
strong opponents like United States, I
think is among the favourites.”
Sinead Jack, captain of Trinidad y Tobago:
“Besides being a very young team, we
lacked communication, but we hope to play
better from no won.” |
